SUSAN FENTRESS concentrates her practice in the areas of intellectual property and biosciences. Ms. Fentress has extensive experience in the preparation and prosecution of chemical and biotech patent applications. In addition, she is particularly knowledgeable in the area of medical diagnostics, both immunological and DNA based testing, medical imaging agents, food technologies, agricultural products and disposable medical and personal devices and natural and veterinarian products. Ms. Fentress is also knowledgeable regarding FDA and transactional issues relating to medical devices and generic drugs, and she is experienced in international and U.S. regulatory issues relating to the design, production and distribution of medical devices.Ms. Fentress has been the featured speaker for numerous seminars. A few of her more recent local and national lectures include the following speeches: "Intellectual Property and Patents" for the National Business Institute; "Chinese Patent Law" for the Tennessee Biotech Association Annual Meeting; "Risk Management Issues with Global Development of Biomedical Products" for the Global Alliance of the Indian Biomedical Professional Annual Conference; "Taming the Intellectual Property Beast: Views from India and China" for the General Counsel Institute; "Protection of Pharmaceuticals" in China for AIPLA; and " Comparison of Patent Protection for Chemical Inventions among Canada, US and Europe" for the American Chemical Society’s 'Chemistry and the Law' Symposium, Joint Regional Meeting.In addition, she has given several international speeches including: "First Step to America. A Legal Consulting Seminar for Investment and Trade in the US" in Nanjing, PRC; "Patent Related Issues for Products Imported into the United States" for the International Drug Discovery Science and Technology Conference in Shanghai, China and "Cost Efficient Patent Litigation in the US" at Hong Kong Science Park.Ms. Fentress served as a moderator for the Licensing Executive Society Annual Conference in 2008. She participated in two Web seminars hosted by Harris Shelton Hanover Walsh. The first webinar discussed the regulatory and legal issues relating to natural products, and the most recent webinar discussed the regulatory and legal issues relating to animal products. Additionally, Ms. Fentress has published works on a variety of subjects including: "Protection of IP in China through Contracts and Good Business Practices" in the Journal of Licensing, Fall 2008; "Patent Protection in China: Myth Versus Reality" in the TN Young Lawyer Journal, Volume 1: Issue 4, Summer 2006 and "Lessons to be Learned for the Dispute Over the Chinese Patent related to Viagra" Genetic Engineering News, Sept. 2007. Ms. Fentress was also featured in The Commercial Appeal article "Attorney Sees Asian Power as a Land of Opportunity".
